Please join us in our cafe this Sunday Sept. 22nd at 5:30pm for our 9th Co-op Conversation: Local Advocacy & Action, an LGBTQ Community Panel. We are happy to present this with the support of the LGBTQ Center of Durham and ACLU of NC.

Post the victory of marriage equality many felt the largest legislative battle of the LGBTQ community had been won despite the continued trend of violence inflicted upon black trans women and an increase in LGBTQ related hate crimes. Many in our LGBTQ community have continued to fight against harmful legislation and the negative impacts these laws have upon our people.

This panel hopes to give space to both applaud the work of those in our community working to influence change at the local, state, and federal levels and discuss the policies and legislation that impact our LGBTQ community. The panelists bring a lens to this work from healthcare to immigration to electoral policy and advocacy and the ways the LGBTQ community are involved and are particularly affected.

We are excited for our amazing panel of community LGBTQ activist. Our panel includes Candis Cox of Equality NC; Joaquín Carcaño of the Latino Commission on AIDS/ Lead plaintiff of the HB142/HB2 Lawsuit; Eliazar Posada of El Centro Hispano, Inc.; Jazmynne Wills community organizer.
