Durham Co-op Community Film Series – UGLY & WILD
February 20 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
The first of its kind for the co-op, our film series will lend a voice to local sustainable food systems, community connectedness, fair trade organizations and issues directly affecting our community, our state and the world! Join us each month in the cafe from February – April for a new film and discussion. Free and all welcome!
Our first screening will feature the short film, UGLY & WILD, which highlights the sustainable fishing practices of Locals Seafood, an inland fish house in Raleigh, North Carolina. Locals believes love awaits those who are willing to take a chance with the lesser-known, but ultra fresh, bounty caught off their coast. Over the last decade, 40% of N.C. fish houses have closed due to increasing demand for imported seafood; which is familiar and cheap, but from obscure sources using unknown practices. UGLY & WILD explores how Locals Seafood is creating new connections with venerable coastal fishing families to bring one of the state’s last wild foods to a dinner plate near you. After all, true beauty is fried on the inside.
Join us for a screening of this film, immediately followed by a discussion panel and fish cooking demo featuring some of NC’s very own ugly aquatic treasures! NC 10% Campaign, Vittles Films, Locals Seafood will be in the house…don’t miss this event!
