Dear Durham Coop Market members, shoppers, neighbors, and community,
On behalf of the DCM Board of Directors, it is my great pleasure to share the news that Jason Bowers has joined DCM as our next General Manager. Jason boasts more than two decades of experience in grocery, including leadership roles at Fred Meyer—a chain that will be well known to any Pacific Northwesters reading this letter—and here in North Carolina, at Lowe’s Foods in Chapel Hill. In addition to his depth of experience, Jason’s enthusiasm for customer service and community outreach made him a standout candidate in the nationwide search, and he has shopped at DCM weekly since moving to North Carolina in 2019. Jason’s first day was July 8, so you might have already met him in the store, but if not, you can expect to find him at events at DCM and around Durham in the coming months.
Since the departure of our last General Manager in June of 2024, DCM has been led by Interim General Managers: first Jasmine Bowles and more recently, Bobby Sullivan, who also leads the French Broad Food Co-op in Asheville. Transitions can be tough, and we are very grateful for the flexibility and teamwork that DCM’s worker owners and staff members have exhibited over the past twelve months. We are also grateful to all of you for your ongoing support of the co-op, and we look forward to serving you better as we move into this next chapter!
