Frozen Treats Beat the Heat

Ice cream, beloved semi-frozen froth, nostalgic childhood delight, renowned breakup meal, the simplest dessert, a summer necessity. With the sun a-blazing, we wanted to give some well-deserved attention to the coolest products at the Co-op, our local ice creams.

Homeland Creamery has been in operation since the 1930’s. Through generations of family farming, the creamery has developed tremendously, with their milk, cheese, and *ice cream* reaching all over NC today. Homeland uses sustainable farming practices and slower pasteurization methods for their milk, which is evident in their flavorsome, healthy dairy goods. The Co-op stocks pints of some of Homeland’s top ice cream flavors, including Butter Pecan, Cake Batter, Peach, Banana, Black Cherry, and more. Scoop away!

Where Durham ice cream is involved, The Parlour, is there. The Parlour, downtown’s ice cream shop, has been perfecting inventive flavors of handmade ice cream since 2011, with dairy-free batches to boot, plus tantalizing toppings for a full ice cream experience. Honey Lavender, Watermelon Lime, Apricot, Salted Butter Caramel, Fresh Mint, and many others are available in pints and half pints at the Co-op. Dish up!

LocoPops opened in 2005 and brings the joy of frozen treats through catering, parties, and their homey Old West Durham shop. Their classic cream-based pops and dairy-free combos alike knock flavor out of the park. Enjoy a chilly burst of fruit goodness with Strawberries & Cream, Mojito, Pomegranate Ginger, and Cherry Lime, or the rich and tasty Chocolate Brownie, Cookies n’ Cream, and Mexican Chocolate. Find the Locopops cooler by our front registers!

You can find many other delicious ice cream options at the Co-op, including unique and delicious, organic, and dairy-free options.
