Fish and seafood are excellent sources of high quality protein, vitamins, and minerals. But with all the warnings about buying fish these days (mercury levels, threatened species, farmed and fresh fish), it can be hard for fish lovers to know  how to make the best seafood choices. So how do you navigate the waters?

Here at the Co-op, we’ve made thoughtful decisions about each product we carry based on sustainability, quality, and price. All of our fish is wild caught, and comes from producers whose fishing practices we trust.

Local’s Seafood: Wild Caught, Local Fish from the North Carolina Coast

All of our fresh fish comes from Local’s Seafood, whose mission is to sell North Carolina Seafood to North Carolinians. Based in Raleigh, the Local’s Seafood team drives out to the coast 3 to 4 times a week to buy directly from local fishermen, and brings fresh seafood back to Raleigh to package and distribute. We receive deliveries at the Co-op 3 times a week on: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays – all of the fish arrives here within 24 hours of when it comes in from the coast. This means that our selection is the freshest it can possibly be, and changes often!
